I prefer Word during the editing process, it has a more robust spell check and grammar check, but being able to block out the distractions of the world while writing can at times be invaluable. MacJournal allows you to incorporate graphics, even QuickTime movies into your journal entries and if you are so inclined you can publish directly to your blog (most popular blogging platforms are supported). I prefer a black background with green type, but you can change the color preferences with several presets or even create a fully custom color combination.

In the sense of pure word craft, Mac Journal is not as robust as Microsoft word, but it has one feature that keeps me as a regular user, full screen mode. I have a journal for each of the blogs that I write for, as well as the print pubs that I contribute to regularly. MacJournal let’s me keep separate “journals” for each of my projects.

I do most of my drafting in MacJournal from Mariner Software (There is also a Windows version). She seems to get her geek on especially when time is of the essence (like when it is my day to post on this blog, ahem). While my muse and I often connect where the pen meets the paper, when, she’s feeling geeky, the keyboard is the place to be. It is back-to-school time at Staples! All those new pens and cool paper, oh, it is practically heaven on earth. Late August is perhaps one of my favorite times of year. I relish the feeling of putting a favorite pen to the pages of a carefully selected journal.
